Diandino Peña arrested

All local daily newspapers carry front headlines today on the detention of former Minister of Public Works, multimillionaire Diandino Peña and the former controller of the Republic, Haivanjoe Ng Cortiñas. They reportedly spent the evening at a cell at the jail of the Palace of Justice in Ciudad Nueva. As Minister of Public Works, Engineer Diandino Peña was head of big budgets in the past government that were used to build important megaworks. El Siglo reports Cesar Pina Toribio, former Attorney General in the PLD administration said that Peña was disconsidered because supposedly he was ordered to get out of his vehicle at gun point. Pina Torribio said that the detention was carried out in an irregular manner, there was no arrest order and charges were not made. He said that the fact that District Attorney Máximo Aristy Caraballo confessed to him that he had not ordered the arrest shows that the authorities want to create a show with what he called illegal and abusive arrests and imprisonment.
