In the Listín Diario, architect Juan Canto suggests that the authorities move the time two hours ahead, instead of one hour as has been announced. The Mejía administration has announced it is authorizing that clocks be set ahead one hour as of Sunday, December 3rd. Many Dominicans had protested the October time change because it is dawn by 5 am and already dark by 5 pm. According to Canto, the additional hour ahead would result in the increase in productivity that was sought by the unfortunate change of 29 October. This would produce savings in street lighting, businesses and housings, as well as improve safety. While the government announced the hour change, a decree to that effect has not yet been announced.
