Minister of Public Works Miguel Vargas Maldonado expressed his approval for the relocation of the Arroyo Barril airport in Samana to El Catey, near Nagua. He told Hoy newspaper that the decision was the consensus among representatives of the government and business sector that met in Samana last week. Aerodom, the private operator of the Arroyo Barril airport, has proposed to discard the expansion of the airport and build a new airport at El Catey, 51 kilometers northwest of Samaná.
