Polio problem in Constanza

For years, vaccination programs had kept the DR practically polio free. Now the Dominican Medical Association is urging the attention of the authorities after seven cases of polio were detected in the mountain city of Constanza. Dr. Fulgencio Severino attributed the cases to the negligence of the authorities in maintaining vaccination programs. "In Constanza there has been a problem of total vaccination coverage. It is now believed that only 38% of the population is vaccinated, which has resulted in the announced cases." He urged the development of an intense vaccination program in Constanza that would guarantee 90% coverage to considerably reduce the incidence of the disease.
