Resolution to limit electricity billing period

Minister of Industry and Commerce Angel Lockward said that a resolution would limit to 30 days the billing stretch of the electricity distributors. He said that the companies have been billing in excess of 30 days. The problem for consumers is that the excess of consumption can then be billed at a higher rate, in detriment of consumers. The scheme permits the companies to receive more revenues than if they billed on a monthly basis. Minister of Industry and Commerce Angel Lockward said that the forthcoming resolution seeks to correct this practice. Consumers in the DR are suffering the effects of Congress moving ahead with privatization without passing an Electricity Bill that would provide a regulatory framework for the electricity distributors. As a result, privatization has meant excessive profits for the unregulated companies and very bad news for defenseless consumers.
