The Ministry of Public Health announced a nationwide blitz to vaccinate 1.9 million children under five years old, regardless of whether they have been vaccinated before. This will take place 15,16 and 17 December and brigades will visit house by house to vaccinate the children. The blitz will be repeated in February, April and August. After six years without a reported case of polio, three cases were confirmed in the central mountain town of Constanza. The authorities say that the cases are the result of the discontinuing of the house-by-house programs. PLD government programs in place required the parents to take their children to the vaccination posts.
