Irregularities continue at Edesur

El Siglo newspaper continues to report on what it calls serious irregularities affecting clients of Edesur. Edesur is the electricity distributor that handles most of the clients in the South. The newspaper points to the case of a client who is affected by a RD$20,648 charge for "unintentional fraud" by the company. As per this case, the company installed a new meter that did not function. The client alerted the company, and it was replaced two months afterwards. Regardless of the company admitting it was aware that they did install a faulty counter, they still justify penalizing the client. The case is being debated in the Superintendence of Electricity. The newspaper also points to the case of 42 owners of apartments in the Condominio Naco V building that experienced around 100% increases in their billing after Edesur installed new meters. El Siglo reports that the cases of suspect manipulation of the meters have only occurred in Edesur. The newspaper’s source says that the company has resisted a request from the authorities to test the meters that are being contested.
