President Hipólito Mejía announced he will travel to the US to receive a honoris causa doctorate from his alma mater, the University of North Carolina in Raleigh. President Mejía studied tobacco processing at that university. The Universidad Santa María in Caracas, Venezuela already has honored him. Today, he is scheduled to be honored by the Universidad del Caribe in Santo Domingo. The President will leave on 20 December. He will be accompanied by family members.
