The representatives of the governments of Canada, France, Great Britain, Japan and the US met yesterday with Ramón Alburquerque, president of the Senate, to lobby for the including of new chapters in the money laundering bill at present in the Senate. The new bill seeks to make it obligatory for real estate, casino, and car dealers to adhere to money laundering regulations. The idea would be to make the DR a hostile environment for the laundering of money generated by drug dealing operations. Ambassador of France, Francois Xavier Deniau; Ambassador Bruno Picard of Canada; Sarah Hildersley of Great Britain; and representatives of the embassy of the US, Japan and the United Nations attended the meeting.
