Teachers and students rejected a call by the Dominican Teachers Association not to go to school yesterday. It ended up being a relatively normal workday at most public schools in Santo Domingo. With only two weeks of classes left on the official school calendar, public school teachers and their students preferred not to heed the calling of the ADP to strike for the rest of the week. The ADP insisted, though, on calling off classes for the rest of the week in interior towns. The ADP seeks an increase in teachers’ wages. The government has said this is not possible until next year.
