Cuba won all the gold medals and the team championship during the Pan American Amateur Wrestling Championship held 17-20 May at the volleyball pavilion of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center. The standings were: Cuba (80 points), USA (66), Dominican Republic (42 points), and Venezuela (41) in team events. Dominican athletes were not able to secure a medal. But Dominican Darwin Guzman qualified to participate in the world championship that will take place in September in New York City. The US won five silver and one bronze. Venezuela won a bronze. Puerto Rico won a silver and bronze.
