Dominican high jumper Juana Arrendel will compete in the 8th IAAF World Championships in Athletics scheduled for 3-12 August in Edmonton, Canada. This will be her first competition abroad following her two year ban after testing positive in the Pan American Games of Winnipeg. Arrendel won a gold in the Pan Am Games, only to lose it after inexplicably testing positive in the doping test. As a result she lost her medal and was suspended for two years. She has kept training and hopes for an impressive comeback. Arrendel will travel as part of the Dominican delegation to the Memorial Barrientos athletics event in Havana, Cuba in June. She cannot compete in the event but will take advantage of the training facilities in Cuba.
