Alex Santana, director of the Aerodom airports, says Dominican airports will soon be among the most modern in the Americas. He says investments of US$203 million have been made since Aerodom took over the Las Americas International (Santo Domingo) and Gregorio Luperon International (Puerto Plata) airports. The company also has the concession to operate airports in Barahona and Samana but investments have primarly focused on Santo Domingo and Puerto Plata. Santana announced the company is advancing on the rebuilding of the north terminal at Las Americas International and is purchasing new medical and fire equipment for the four airports. We have made a commitment to the government and the Dominican people to place the airport services at levels above other Latin American and Caribbean countries, he said. (24 May 2001)
