Renegotiating the Dominican Power deal

AES Dominicana promises to invest US$100 million in a technological upgrade to its diesel powered plants in Los Minas. The operation of these plants is probably the most costly in the DR. The idea is to convert them to run on natural gas piped in from the company base now under construction in Andres, Boca Chica. Guillermo Ibañez, speaking for the company, said they have plans to convert the plant to combined cycle to take advantage of the heat and steam generated by the plant. He said the improvements will result in US$70 million in savings throughout the next ten years for the Dominican government.
