The Ministry of Environment has announced it will take advantage of World Environment Day, 5 June, to start a campaign to reduce noise levels in Santo Domingo. Rene Ledesma, a deputy minister, told Diario Libre newspaper that the Ministry will start to implement new noise regulations that went into effect with the passing of the Environmental Law last August. The new regulations establish different noise limits depending on the city zone and the time of the day. “The truth is that we are nuts; we create lots of noise and we have to start educating ourselves and learning about this process,” he said.
