The Ministry of Public Works signed a three year agreement with the World Bank for the maintenance of highways in the South, North Center and North West. A tender was held and three Spanish companies won bids to post signs, repair the highways and develop a permanent program to maintain the highways. Elsamex will be in charge of the Bani-Azua highway, Km. 15 to San Juan de la Maguana, Las Matas and Barahona highways in the South. API will oversee Duarte Highway to Santiago, Duarte to Jarabacoa and Duarte to Moca. And Intropolis won the contract to oversee the northwestern highways of Navarrete-Guayacanes-Monte Cristi, Monte Cristi-Copey, Copey-Guayubín. Daniel Gomez, speaking for the Ministry of Public Works program, also said that the World Bank is providing financing for a pilot program that will provide maintenance to the San Pedro-Hato Mayor and San Pedro-La Romana highways.
