President Hipolito Mejia told Hoy newspaper that the idea behind the repair and expansion of the Quisqueya Ball Park is to attract a Major League franchise. He also commented the ball park will be the site of the baseball games during the 2003 Panamerican Games. The expansion calls for the construction of a hotel, convention center, baseball museum, new parking areas and new entertainment facilities. (4 June 2001)
