The Ministry of Finance has begun to redeem Agrarian Reform bonds (issued in 1972 and redeemable in 1987), fuel debt amortization bonds (issued in 1974 and redeemable in 1989), and Hurricane David bonds (issued in 1979 and redeemable in 1995). The redeeming of the bonds is a pre-condition for the issuing of the sovereign bonds sought by the government to improve its finances. The Ministry of Finance issued a RD$9.6 million check to the Banco de Reservas as a first payment for the bonds.
