President Hipolito Mejia has accepted full responsibility for the strange case of the Police Chief personally traveling by helicopter to Las Matas de Farfan to arrest a man for lying. PRD member Pedro Montero was arrested for disputing the area’s water situation with the local water supply director. (See http://www.dr1.com/daily/news060801.shtml). President Mejia confirmed yesterday on the Rafael Corporan de los Santos radio program that he was not joking, as originally thought, and that he gave the arrest instructions because Montero was tainting himself and the government’s efforts to improve water supply in the country. He referred to an article by Bienvenido Alvarez Vega that said the worst part of the arrest was the fact that the President was behind it. “No, that I can’t accept, even if the former district attorney does not like it and neither do some other droolers (“babosos”) or my brother Bienvenido Alvarez. We had to arrest him for being a liar.”
