Electricity companies to deliver bills on time

Jose Ovalles, the Superintendent of Electricity, says the government has negotiated with three power distributors (Edenorte, Edesur, Edeste) to send their bills out on time to reduce complaints. Another achievement of the talks was that the distributors agreed to send out a notice to their customers who pay on time before cutting service or charging the RD$250 re-connection fee. The computer automatically levies the RD$250 charge when the due date for paying the bill passes. The companies also agreed to reduce the time for resolving complaints regarding excessive charges and to repair breakdowns in the shortest time possible. The Mejia government has been very complacent with the distributors despite widespread complaints of major service faults and an apparent lack of efforts to improve the service.
