Olimpia Gonzalez shows up

The president of the Dominican Association of Professors (ADP), Olimpia Gonzalez, explained yesterday that she did not appear in court because she did not received a formal summons to appear. Judge Dario Gomez Herrera is trying a fraud case against the ADP and went looking for her yesterday. In a press conference at the public school teacher’s union, Gonzalez said she found out in the media that her presence was required in court. She said her lawyers are preparing a request to the Supreme Court for a change of judge. News reports say the teachers’ union has major image problems due to the poor academic performance of public school students, lack of internal unity, and politics within the union.
