Centrobasket, the leading Central American and Caribbean basketball women’s championship, starts today at the Mauricio Baez and Villa Francisca basketball courts. The semifinals and finals will be held at the Palacio de los Deportes of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center. The DR, Mexico, Guatemala and Jamaica are competing in Group A. Cuba, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica and Barbados in Group B. The last time the DR won a medal in this event was in 1975. Today’s games start at 4 pm at the Club Villa Francisca (Guatemala vs. Jamaica) and Club Mauricio Baez (Puerto Rico vs. Barbados). The inauguration is set for 7 pm with Vice President Milagros Ortiz Bosch in attendance at the Club Mauricio Baez.
