President Hipolito Mejia gave the keynote address yesterday at the opening of the Federation of Interamerican Lawyers at the Hotel Melia Santo Domingo. During his speech, President Mejia highlighted his guarantee for a regime of law during his remaining three and a half years in government. He referred to the respect his government has for the independence of the legislative and judicial branches of government. Furthermore, he mentioned that the media in the Dominican Republic is vigorous, demanding and opinion-making, and that his government allows freedom of the press to criticize the authorities and issue editorial opinions.
