The press has denounced confrontations between competing drug gangs in the Capotillo slum of Santo Domingo, to the point the area has been called “no man’s land.” When journalists asked the president of the National Department for the Control of Drugs (DNCD) about this, he responded: “That is what we want, that the drug dealers kill themselves, to see if the situation is reduced, let them kill each other off,” he said, as quoted in Hoy newspaper.
