President Hipolito Mejia told Listin Diario that the government is ready to eliminate all restrictions and establish incentives and special facilities to attract the savings of Dominicans living abroad. President Mejia said that Dominicans have thousands in savings in the US and the country needs to put into place mechanisms to lure these savings to the DR. He also told the Listin that the government is studying offers for funding from commercial banks to carry out public works. He said this does not mean the government will not seek access to international capital markets and neither would it desist from its plan to issue US$500 million in sovereign bonds.
