The International Commission for Sustainable Development of the United Nations and the Ministry of Environment chose Punta Cana Resort and Club as a model of sustainable tourism development in the Caribbean. The award was presented during the International Conference on Biodiversity and Sustainable Tourism held in Santo Domingo. (28 June 2001)
