Sovereign bond hearings

Business spokesmen, civil society, politicians and economists that have opposed the issuing of US$500 million in sovereign bonds did not show up at the public hearings called by the Senate yesterday. El Caribe newspaper pointed out that the session was used by different entities to promote other sources of funds, such as that of Asper Financial and Funding Resources of Miami, Florida that said they have available US$800 million dollars, over a 10 year period and 8% interest. Minister of Finance Fernando Alvarez Bogaert said he has received at least 20 offers for governmental financing.
