Minister of Education, Vice President Milagros Ortiz Bosch in a talk to the nation yesterday on TV said that the Mejia administration has installed 88 computer labs in public grade schools nationwide. She announced that another 100 are in process of installation and by years end 214 should be installed. Some 445 computer labs are installed in public schools. Interestingly, during his political campaign, today President Hipolito Mejia made fun of former President Leonel Fernandez for the start of a program to reduce the digital divide between better off and low income Dominicans by installing computer labs in public schools. Minister Ortiz said that the government has renovated or under construction construction 5,669 school rooms calling for an investment of RD$1,321.7 million that will benefit a 453,520 school children. She said that the authorities have appointed 9,019 more teachers. She also highlighted the 200 new day care centers for children 3 to 4 years old, and the equipping of 23 new vocational high schools.
