Dominican Giorgia Anna Ieromazzo won the first place at a junior international equestrian competition in San Remo, Italy with prize money of US$60,000. The win of the Dominican teenager came as such a big surprise that the organizers had to use the Dominican flag hoisted at the entrance of the center for the award ceremony. Organizers also had to apologize because they did not have the Dominican anthem on hand either, never expecting a Dominican competitor to win an event. Instead a march was played.
