International Theater Festival

The Ministry of Culture announced the celebration of the III International Theater Festival from 11-23 October, at a cost to the state of RD$7 million. Sixteen nations will participate in the event that will be staged at the National Theater, Bellas Artes, the Museum of History & Geography and the Gran Teatro Cibao in Santiago. Admission will be free. Actors that were hired to participate in the state-sponsored National Book Fair in April-May took advantage of the event to protest that the Ministry had not yet paid them for their work during that event. The participating theater companies are as follows: Denmark: “Mitos/Oda al Progreso/Itsi Bitsi” (Eugenio Barbas’ Odin Teatret) France: “Ixbe” (Compagne Jerome Thomas); “Les tres mousquetaires” (Theatre de l’Arc en Terre) Martinique: “Mamiwata” (Theatre du Flamboyant) Switzerland: “Umbral” (Teatro de las Raices) Chile: “El Hussar de la Muerte” (La Patogallina) Puerto Rico: “Dia uno o la vispera del deguello” (Colectivo C-4) Colombia: “Las burquesas de la calle menor” (Adela Donadio) Cuba: “Bacantes” (Teatro Buendia) Venezuela: “Pavlov 2”, “Segundos antes del crimen” (Teatro San Martin) United Kingdom: “Animal Farm”, “Under Milk Wood” (Guy Masterson Productions) Brazil: “Toda nudez sera castigada” (Cibele Forjaz) Slovakia: “Las bodas de Figaro” (Vito Taufer) India: “Teatro Katakali” (India Company) Spain: “La mala vida” (Grupo Malpaso), “El Quijote” (Grupo Bambalina Titelles, “Mana, mana” (Los Ullen).
