Pueblo Bavaro

Dominican business groups are investing RD$800 million in the construction of a small town, Pueblo Bavaro, 10 minutes away from the Punta Cana International Airport. The small town is planned for 40,000 inhabitants. The idea is to provide adequate housing and services to the thousands of employees of the Punta Cana-Bavaro-Macao area resorts. President Mejia and Minister of Tourism Ramon Alfredo Bordas visited the project on occasion of the inauguration of the town aqueduct. Jack Corrie presides the building company. Felix Jimenez, the former Minister of Tourism (1996-2000), is in charge of real estate sales. (6 July 2001)
