World-class volleyball in Santo Domingo

Canada, Jamaica, Barbados and the Dominican Republic will compete starting today for two available berths in the World Volleyball Cup to be held in 2002 World Championship in Germany. The top two teams of the four team round robin will gain the berths. The games will be played at the Volleyball Pavilion of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center 12-15 July. The DR and Canada are the favorites to win the qualifying round. The team that wins the first place gets to choose its contender in the next qualification round. Canada’s national team did not participate in the 1998 World Championships after losing the spot to the Dominican Republic at the last qualifier four years ago. The schedule for the games is: Thursday, 12 July Canada vs. Jamaica (5 pm) Dominicana vs. Barbados (7:30 pm) Friday, 13 July Canada vs. Barbados (5 pm) Jamaica vs. DR (7:30 pm) Saturday, 14 July Barbados vs. Jamaica (5 pm) Canada vs. Dominican Republic (7:30 pm) (12 July 2001)
