In his inaugural speech as new president of the Asociacion de Empresas Industriales de Herrera, Jose Ernesto Sanchez Berges warned that the new economic model of the government of borrowing from who ever wants to lend the government is a very risky strategy especially in these days of critical world economic growth. The Herrera business organization is the largest among industries. Sanchez said Dominicans need to endeavor so that the government reduces its spending and gives priority to essential sectors for the nations growth, such as education. Sanchez asked how industrialists will be able to compete when working capitals are being consistently reduced by government measures intended to increase the already bulging state income. How can we offer better prices when the energy component is one of the highest in the region in addition to serious problems in supply, he asked. Furthermore, he criticized that today the government is primarily milking the few companies that pay taxes when collecting new taxes. He lamented that industry has not been included in the development plans of politicians.
