Diplomatic sources interviewed by El Siglo newspaper say that the new aspiration of Mexico to one of the rotating seats on the UN Security Council violates principles established in the charter of the UN. Diplomatic sources say the DR should appeal to the principles of precedence (the DR presented its candidacy in 1997, Mexico in 2000), rotation (the DR has never had the seat, Mexico has held its twice) and its right as a small country.
