The Dominican Republic, Bolivia, Honduras and Panama signed a commercial understanding agreement with China that guarantees that Dominican exports will not be discriminated against despite the maintaining of relations with Taiwan. China has been known to penalize countries with up to 100% higher duties. Negotiations were head by Dominican ambassador in Geneva, Federico Alberto Cuello who reported to the Ministry of Foreign Relations that China granted right to negotiate 97 customs duty sections. This way, after the entrance of China to the World Trade Organization, any change in the consolidated tariffs of the country needs to be renegotiated with the five countries of the block head by the DR.
