Alexis Garcia, president of the Dominican Volleyball Federation announced that the government will build a RD$54 million state of the art National Volleyball Pavilion in the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center. The volleyball pavilion will be ready in time for the volleyball competitions of the 2003 Pan American Games. He said the air-conditioned facility would be the most complete in the area. It will have capacity for 5,000 fans and will have ten volleyball courts. He said once the facility is operating, Santo Domingo should be able to attract several international events every year. Garcia said that the Dominican volleyball team is ranked 11th in the world after defeating Canada in the qualifying championship held last weekend in Santo Domingo. Canada is ranked 12th.
