Verdi’s “Rigoletto” opera at the National Theater

The National Theater and the Opera de las Americas company announced the staging of Giuseppe Verdi’s “Rigoletto,” a tale of love and betrayal, in August at the National Theater. Foreign and international talent will come together to tell the tale of a humpbacked jester, his innocent daughter, a lascivious nobleman, a hired assassin and a deadly curse as they intertwine in this tragic tale of seduction, vengeance and ultimate disaster. The opera features some of Verdi’s most glorious melodies, such as “La donna e mobile” and “Caro nome.” The opera, to be conducted by Maestro Carlos Piantini, will be staged on 15, 17, and 21 August at 8:30 pm. A 19 August presentation is set for 6 pm. Performers are: Justino Diaz, Theodore Lambrinos, Carlos Moreno, Magna Nieves, Nancy Herrera and Valerio Marchetti. They join Dominicans Fausto Cepeda, Frank Lendor, Juan Tomas Reyes, Belkis Hernandez and the Polifonia choir conducted by Jose Delmonte. New Orleans Opera Association and Opera of Toronto are responsible for the sets. Tickets are for sale at the National Theater for RD$1,000 to RD$300.
