President Hipolito Mejia promised apartments would be allotted to members of the national women’s volleyball team which qualified to participate in the Germany World Cup. He said apartments would also be forthcoming to members of the men’s team if they also manage to qualify for the world cup. The men have traveled to Canada to compete in the Men’s Volleyball 2002 World Championships Qualifier Tournament. The winner of the four team round robin tournament gains a berth into the 2002 World championships in Argentina next year. However, it is unlikely the men’s team will qualify. Going into the tournament, the DR is ranked 73rd.
