A day before the opening of an International Conference on Seismic Risk in the Caribbean in Santiago, an earthquake registering four on the Richter Scale was felt in the Cibao region. The seismology department of the Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo reported that the earthquake was felt Monday, 23 July at 1:50 pm in the Cibao and the North Coast. No damage was caused.
