New deadline for the government to pay its power bills

AES is giving the government until Monday, 30 July, to pay its power bills. The government owes RD$100 million for power consumption for three months, according to Diario Libre. AES hopes to collect at least 50% of this bill. Diario Libre says the Electricity Superintendency and the Dominican Electricity Corporation support the power distributor in its efforts to collect from the government departments. So far only Central Bank, Banco de Reservas, Chamber of Accounts, Metropolitan Transport Authority and the National Palace are up to date with their payments. Other departments appear to have used the money designated for power for other purposes.
