President Hipolito Mejia and Minister of Tourism Ramon Alfredo Bordas signed an agreement yesterday with American Express for the Official Card Program. Jon Linen, vice president of the board of directors of American Express, and Pedro Castillo, president of the Banco del Progreso Dominicano (which represents Amex in the DR), signed the agreement. In October a campaign will position the DR as “island of the month.” Benefits to travelers include a US$100 Amex travelers check, the fifth night free in select hotels and resorts, and discount cards for purchases at participating businesses.
