New car importers oppose importing old cars

The president of the Asociacion de Concesionarios y Fabricantes de Vehiculos, Juan Morel, has expressed his concern over the Senate’s passage of a bill that would allow the import of cars up to 10 years old, instead of five years old as established in the Law of Tax Reform which was passed in January of this year. Morel said that if the bill is passed by the Chamber of Deputies, the country will become a “junkyard.” The spokesman for new car dealers said the bill contradicts the US$150 million Plan Renove that calls for the import of new vehicles to replace old public transportation vehicles.
