Dominican Republic weight lifters placed third in the Pan American Weight Lifting championship over the weekend. The US won the event followed by Puerto Rico in second place. The US won four gold medals, seven silver and 11 bronze for 976 points. Puerto Rico won one gold, two silver and one bronze and accumulated 893 points for participating in most categories. The DR placed third with four gold, seven silver and seven bronze for 784 points. Cuba won the most medals with 23, followed by the US with 22 and the DR and Mexico with 18 each. Wanda Rijo was the most outstanding Dominican athlete, with two gold and a silver in the event.
