Alberto Del Pino, advisor to the President on tourism affairs, says that more five star hotels should be built in the country. The Presidents tourism advisor says that the US market demands more of these properties. He also explained that the current decline in tourism is cyclical. In the past years, more hotels have been built than the normal growth of the demand. This has affected hotel occupancy and the price wars have in turn affected hotel profitability, he said. Del Pino feels that the country has achieved a maturity in tourism development and hotels now need to remodel their facilities. He advocates building five star hotels as there is an adequate supply of middle level properties. (31 July 2001)
