A thunderstorm yesterday causing flooding, toppling of road signs and major traffic bottlenecks in Santo Domingo. Wind gusts of 100 kms. per hour were felt in Santo Domingo from 4 to 6 pm. The storm caused the closure of Las Americas International Airport from 4:10 to 4:35 pm. Radhames Lora Salcedo, director of Civil Defense operations, said that on the positive side the rains were a blessing as they increased water levels in the dams and were beneficial to agriculture. Rains of less intensity are expected to continue over the nation as the storm moves on to Cuba.
