The Civil Aviation Board has authorized American Eagle to fly to Herrera International Airport in Santo Domingo. Air Santo Domingo started the flights into the inner city, whetting the appetite of the American Airlines affiliate. The Civil Aviation Board authorized the flights under the condition that American Eagle maintains an equal number of flights into the southwestern Barahona Maria Montez International Airport. The Barahona airport was completed several years ago, but no regular airline has cared to fly into the destination. Barahona has around 300 hotel rooms. The Civil Aviation Board also authorized Mexicana de Aviacion to fly the Mexico City-Santo Domingo route.
