Hoy reports construction has started on a modern swimming complex for the 2003 Pan American Games. The Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Centers 50-meter pool will be used for swimming, water polo, diving and synchronized swimming events. The president of the Swimming Federation, Lilian Jacobs de Solano, has announced that engineer Jorge Abreus company, E&T, will build the aquatics center at a cost of RD$38 million. The new 10-lane 50 x 25 meter pool will be built adjacent to the older 50-meter pool which will be used for warm ups. The older diving facility will be destroyed.
