Constitutional Reform Commission submits its conclusions

President Mejia has received the final conclusions on constitutional reform from Monsignor Agripino Nuñez Collado, coordinator of the Constitutional Reform Commission. Upon receiving the report, the President said he would lobby for a consensus among the three majority political parties and Congress. Congress is the government body in charge of reforming the Constitution. But its proposals for reform met with rejection by the population, which lead the President to form the commission. Congressmen had lobbied to extend their terms two more years in order to have the presidential and congressional elections at the same time.
