Navy and Municipality issue permits to build in National Park

Domingo Abreu, environmental editor for Hoy newspaper, says that many of the private homes and businesses going up in the Felix Servio Ducoudray National Monument Park, better known as the Dunes of Bani, have been authorized by the Bani municipality and the Navy commander in the area. The Ministry of Environment has ordered an evaluation of any buildings that violate the law. Navy Chief Luis Alberto Humeau and Julio Cesar Ureña, in charge of protected areas for the Ministry of Environment, said an investigation was ordered after the Listin Diario newspaper denounced the situation.
