Supreme Court judge dies

Supreme Court Judge Juan Guiliani Volquez died yesterday at age 89. The President of the Supreme Court of Justice Jorge Subero Isa said it is timely that the National Council of the Magistracy is convening to choose new judges. In 1996, a major restructuring of the judiciary took place and 16 judges were appointed to the Supreme Court. However, Bernardo Fernandez Pichardo did not accept the appointment and Judge Julio Genaro Campillo died earlier this year, bringing the total to only 13 judges with the death of Guiliani.
